WASHINGTON — How do you spell s-u-c-c-e-s-s?
Being the only Canadian to make it so far at the prestigious Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Finola Hackett, a 14-year-old grade eight student from Tofield, Alta, took the $12,000 US second prize Thursday in the competition, worth more than $40,000 US for winner Katherine Close, from Ashbury Park, N.J.
Hackett, who began in a field of 274 competitors, got stumped on weltschmerz, a mental depression, and gave the spelling as veltschmerz.

What's cool about this is that the spelling bee is a U.S. spelling bee that utilises U.S. English. Ms Hackett, however (bless her), pronounced Z as 'zed' instead of 'zee'. Atta-girl!
